OGCS Guinea SARL is a consultancy company specializing in the provision of multi-disciplined Project Management Services to the Global Mining and Energy Industry. We invite applicants for this role for the Simandou project in Guinea, West Africa. 

Position Overview:

We’re looking for an Scaffolding & WAH Specialist to report directly to the Principal Advisor HSE Contractor Management & High-risk Work within the Integrated Management System (IMS) Team, supporting HSE Managers and Construction Teams across project areas. 

The Scaffolding and WAH Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring scaffolding and WAH safety standards across all areas of the Simandou Project, including mine, rail, port and Conakry office facilities.

Candidates please note that this role requires a combination of technical expertise, physical fitness, and a strong commitment to safety. This role is based at the Simandou Mine Site in Guinea , with occasional travel between projects sites.

Key Responsibilities: 

With a focus on governance, assurance and compliance, ensuring that all scaffolding and WAH activity is effectively and safely integrated into all project operations and activities, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assemble and disassemble temporary scaffolds, platforms, and staging to provide secure platforms for other construction professionals.

  • Regularly inspect erected scaffolding and WAH installations to ensure it is safe and in good condition.

  • Develop & lead the implementation of scaffolding and WAH safety governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies across all project areas.

  • Act as the subject matter expert for scaffolding and WAH activities, providing guidance on hazards, risks, and mitigation strategies, including industry safe practices.

  • Support various project sites in the development, implementation, and review of scaffolding and WAH safety programs, ensuring effectiveness and alignment with project standards.

  • Champion scaffolding and WAH safety risk assessments, audits, and inspections, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions to mitigate risks, particularly regarding high-risk work practices.

  • Ensure roll out and compliance with scaffolding and WAH procedures and conduct verification checks to confirm their proper application in work environments.

  • Actively collaborate with the Training Department to develop and deliver scaffolding and WAH training programs, including developing and implementing verification of competency process.

  • Lead and/or participate in the investigation of scaffolding and WAH incidents or near misses, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are implemented and tracked to completion.

  • Provide technical & safety expertise to the Project Delivery team throughout major project cycles.

  • Review new asset operational readiness tactics, maintenance plans, and permit-to-work systems, assisting in risk assessments and work method statements.

  • Drive the implementation and compliance of Company standards C4, including health checks.

  • Review, maintain, and create Project & Operations scaffolding and working at height safety-related documents and tools.

  • Prepare regular reports and updates on scaffolding and WAH safety performance, incidents, audits, and compliance for HSE management and project stakeholders.

  • Work closely with project teams, contractors, training and engineering departments to ensure alignment on scaffolding and high-risk work safety requirements, including industry best practices and promoting a strong safety culture.

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with other construction team members to facilitate other phases of the construction process.

  • Provide guidance in maintaining, clean, and store scaffolding & WAH equipment properly.

  • Train and mentor nominated National scaffolding staff.

  • Proficiency in assembling and disassembling scaffolding structures.

  • Proficiency in installing anchor points, lifelines and supporting WAH activities.

What you’ll bring:

  • CPCCLSF4001 or equivalent - advanced scaffold unit of competency (mandatory).

  • RIIWHS204E or equivalent - working at height unit of competency (mandatory).

  • DROPS Forum training or equivalent (mandatory).

  • TAE40122 or equivalent – training & assessing unit of competency (desirable).

Additional Requirements:

  • Good physical fitness and the ability to work at heights.

  • Ability to conduct audits, inspections, and assessments.

  • Proficiency in reporting and data analysis tools.

  • Fluency in English (French advantageous).

  • Excellent communication skills and effective stakeholder management.

  • A proactive approach with a commitment in driving a safe and inclusive team culture.

  • B Category Driving license.
