OGCS Guinea SARL is a consultancy company specializing in the provision of multi-disciplined Project Management Services to the Global Mining and Energy Industry. We currently have a requirement for multiple Project Engineers to join the Simandou Project in Guinea.

Position Overview:

We are looking for Project Engineers to join the Simandou Mine Team. By joining the team at this early stage, you will have impact on this significant iron ore project in Guinea, West Africa. 

We are seeking Project Engineers to join the Simandou Mine Team across the minerals processing plant, non-process infrastructure and special projects scope (including early ore crushing and other facilities). The Project Engineers will typically have a discipline focus such as earthworks, concrete, buildings, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentations or controls.

As one of our Project Engineers, you will manage the detailed engineering effort to support the execution of this multi-billion-dollar, 60Mtpa iron ore mine and its supporting infrastructure.  

As a Project Engineer within the Owner’s Team (contract), you will be accountable for the management of the contract packages or part thereof for your area with a discipline focus, supporting the Lead Project Engineer for your area, with inputs from the project functional teams in engineering, project services and construction management.

Specific Responsibilities:

Key accountabilities of the role for your area with a discipline focus include:

  • Develop scopes of work and work packages to fully define contract requirements including bid / variation evaluation with inputs from the functional teams

  • Proactive management of contractors’ performance and progress to the project scope / quantities, quality, cost and schedule requirements; holding contractors accountable to deliver to their responsibilities and outcomes.

  • Response / review of technical queries and requests for information.

  • Review of field designs for suitability for construction as required.

  • Manage interfaces between contracts, procurement and service provider packages to ensure there are no gaps or overlaps at battery limits

  • Assessment of contractor claims

  • Coordination of input from the functional services teams to deliver the contract objectives

  • Where issues are identified, leadership and coordination of issue resolution including mitigation development and implementation

  • Effectively manage change in accordance with project procedures

  • Identifying and mitigating project risks and opportunities

  • Proactively seek opportunities to maximise value for the project Provide coverage for Lead Project Engineers and other discipline project engineers during roster breaks

Qualifications and Proficiencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, 12+ years’ experience.

  • Strong experience in Project Engineering and major contract delivery in the execution of mega projects in the mining industry.

  • Experience preferred with constructions and/or operations of material handling, crushing, conveying, stackers, reclaimers and train load out systems.

  • Site-based project delivery experience required, including in international/remote locations.

  • Experience delivering projects in Africa, particularly West Africa, and / or China will be highly regarded.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills – French language skills will be highly regarded, Chinese language skills also valuable.

ABOUT THE SIMANDOU PROJECT

The Simandou Iron Ore Project (Blocks 3 & 4) is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is a high-grade, world-class iron ore deposit and represents one of the largest known iron ore reserves in the world.

The Simandou South Project operates under the Simfer joint venture where the Government of Guinea holds 15%, Rio Tinto and Chinalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH), which hold 45.05% and 39.95% of Simandou respectively, continue to work with the Government of Guinea to explore options to develop the Simandou iron ore deposit, as well as potential mechanisms for collaboration on the infrastructure required for the development of the Project and mining operations.
