Overview

As a Lead Estimator in the Energy industry, your primary responsibility is to develop and manage accurate cost estimates for energy projects, including renewable energy, oil & gas, and power generation. You will oversee and ensure the consistency and reliability of cost estimate data and provide critical input during the project planning and bidding phases. Your expertise in cost estimation will be vital for optimizing project budgets, mitigating financial risks, and supporting strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

Estimate Leadership

Lead and mentor the estimating team, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high-quality and accurate cost estimates.

Establish standardized estimating processes, procedures, and best practices to maintain consistency and reliability.

Cost Estimation

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for energy projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, and contingencies.

  • Review and validate cost estimates prepared by team members to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Project Evaluation

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project scopes, requirements, and objectives.

  • Perform cost-benefit analyses and evaluate different project scenarios to support strategic decision-making.

Data Management

  • Maintain a comprehensive database of historical cost data, unit prices, and productivity rates to support accurate estimating.

  • Continuously update and refine cost data based on market trends, supplier feedback, and project outcomes.

Risk Analysis

  • Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties in cost estimates, developing mitigation strategies to address these risks.

  • Incorporate risk analysis into cost estimates to provide realistic and reliable project budgets.

Bid Preparation

  • Prepare and submit competitive bid proposals for energy projects, ensuring that estimates are aligned with project specifications and client requirements.

  • Collaborate with business development and sales teams to develop winning strategies for bid submissions.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Generate detailed estimating reports, summaries, and presentations for project stakeholders, including executives and clients.

  • Ensure that all estimating documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with company policies and industry standards.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with project teams, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather information and clarify project requirements.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for estimating-related inquiries and provide timely responses to stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor industry trends, advancements in estimating techniques, and changes in cost factors to continuously improve the estimating process.

  • Implement lessons learned from completed projects to enhance the accuracy and reliability of future estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, finance, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator, AACE International Certification) are a plus.

  • Proven experience in cost estimation within the energy industry.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in estimating software, cost management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

  • Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and market trends in the energy sector.
